The Heritage Christian Fellowship
E-mail Listserv?

(Formerly the Men of Heritage Listserv)

To Join HCF Listserv

For better or worse, most of us have come to use e-mail has a primary method of communication.  A listserv is a tool that uses e-mail for a limited group of people to communicate efficiently and quickly.  Messages sent thru the listserv are private within our church family.

How it Works:

Anyone on the listserv can send a message to the entire group by e-mailing
HCF_Mens_Fellowship@yahoogroups.com
Please be careful not to send anything to this address that is intended for just one person.  Replies to messages received on the listserv will also go to the whole group.

How We Use This Listserv:

This Listserv is intended for communicating needs of our church family.
Appropriate uses include:

  • Prayer Requests.
  • Requests for Help.
  • Fellowship Meeting Notices.
  • Schedule Changes in Church or Fellowship Functions
  • Cancellation of Church or Fellowship Functions
  • Bible Study Notices.
  • Issues of concern to the fellowship.
  • Church-wide communication of church matters.
This Listserv is Not intended for:
  • Personal Messages
  • Spamming, or forwarding of chain or "cute" messages
  • Political Messages
  • Opinions or Criticism
  • Subjects that do not involve the church family

May we glorify HIM in all we do here.

The Pro's and Con's of Using Yahoo Groups:

I have some reservations about using Yahoo Groups for our listserv.  Although I've used them in the past without problems, there are issues that we should all be aware of:

  • Yahoo Groups is, by far, the largest and most widespread e-mail list service available.  They have bought out most of their competition, and as far as I can tell, have a virtual monopoly on the kind of free service that we seek.
  • We pay for this free service with occasional advertisements that are placed at the bottom of each e-mail, and we have little control over what these advertisements are for.
  • Yahoo states that advertising will be suited to the category of our group.  Our listserv is one of over 9000 others on Yahoo Groups listed as "Christian".
  • I've been using Yahoo Groups for several years with listservs that I have set-up for my astronomy club and my work at the airport.  Looking back at those messages, the few ads that I see are not objectionable.
  • I've never had a problem with spam from an address used on Yahoo Groups.
  • If we start having problems with Yahoo Groups, we'll move to another provider.
In His Service,
Sam Lockwood
